Mirror mirror on the wall....

...who is the makcik-est of them all? That would be Sleepyhead! Jadi bukan lah Auntida sahaja yang sudah promote kepada taste makcik-makcik. Tehehehe....I got it while on the way back to Kuantan. We made a detour (I know it sounds ridiculous) to The Store, Alam Sentral Shah Alam. It's retailing at 50% of its original price.....CNY sales ma...only RM 39.90. Quite comfy and suitable for long walks on the beach.......which is what we did on Saturday. Mak cooked nasi minyak and gulai ayam. I fried up some prawns and a couple of salmon blocks. Ja and Abg Din brought fruits and drinks and off we went to Pantai Balok. Abah came way later (after his mengaji class and berborak sessions) and was only left with 2 prawns and gulai tanpa daging ayam. I bet he knew the food was going to be polished off before he arrived so he brought kuih kambas (? spelling) and some buns courtesy of Makcik Mas.

Pictures of the beach were forgotten because the picnic was centered around eating Mak's famous nasi minyak. On Friday Joe and I ventured out to Tanjung Lumpur in search of Nafisah's Keropok Sagu. Unfortunately Nafisah was otherwise engaged. Busy going to CNY open houses, maybe. So our plan B was to go to Mok Na's stall. The front section was filled with throngs of people queueing up to buy the sata. I wasn't interested in that so we went straight in to the dining area. No empty tables were to be found. Not at least, until we have stood around with a hungry look on our faces for about 10 minutes. Next, it came to ordering. Since this is only our second time here we looked at other tables for a clue. There were numerous plates of what seemd to be fish deep fried in batter so we ordered a set of those; and RM3 worth of kepok. Next, we saw the house specialty drink in the form of air jagung special. The "special" turns out to be a meagre scoop of corn flavord ice cream. But it looked quite attractive when it was being made so I ordered it on top of our iced lime tea and teh tarik. The service leaves much room for improvement. We had to wait close to half an hour for the fish to arrive and yet another 30 minutes for the kepok to arrive; and not without our constant nagging of the waiter-boy-person. Granted, there were so many people there; but I think for a business like this to survive it needs to think strategically and be prepared to cater to a large number of customers. Oh well, you can't have much hope for a smalltown kampung business like this, can you? Not without proper brains at the helm. And I think this Mok Na person has gone a little way over her head since so many people are visiting her stall. Needless to say, the kepok was gorgeous.....nice crispy outer layer which gives a crunch when you bit and then soft gooey center completes the palate. I can't say the same for the deep fried fish, though. It's a little bland. And the air jagung? So-so. In essence, I'd definitely go there for the kepok but only if there is no long queue or throngs of people.

Now the cycle is complete....

...since I've been discovered by yet another sibling ---> the somewhat non-blogging bro. I say somewhat because he does have a blog but it's leaning more towards the academia. Boooorrriiinnnngggg!!!!! Wake the baby up Abg Din, and pour out your soul to us! Muehehehehehe....and I know you have been visiting today!

Saya adalah....

sangat NAIF. Insident lewat minggu ini cukup meletakkan benda-benda ke dalam perspektif (put things into perspective, yo!) Tapi tak apa, apa orang kata tu ye? Don't get angry, get EVEN. Bring it on, b*tch!!!!

In Mourning

I do not want to seem so shallow but although there are many other saddening news in this world, I weep a little when I heard about this....R.I.P Heath Ledger.

And in other news, I'm gonna need to do some shopping since the government has decided that Thursday is Batik Day

'Tis the second season...

of good food and good company. It was Abami's birthday, Kak Ida's coming to KL and Kak Nona's promotion; and naturally we decided it was high time for a good makan time. At another hotel, of course. This time, it was One World Hotel. Guess who suggested it? Ahem!

The spread was delectable. My pick was the dimsum, sushi and sashimi, smoked salmon (my usual must-have!), pasta, button mushrooms in olive oil (bit too salty), pizza and the usual salads and starters. There was also mamak-style and chinese-style cuisine but I wasn't tempted. The angel-hair pasta was lovely with the cream sauce and I added the smoked salmon and mushrooms to it to make it more irresistable. I wish I had more of those dimsum as well as sashimi. The tuna on the sushi was not as fresh, though. It's color was slightly pale. I liked the choice of salads and vegetables mainly because there was plenty of broccoli and cauliflower to be had with a wide selection of salad dressings. Okay, enough about the food.

We were a bit late getting there because we had to get a gift for abami and I got a couple of cards for Kak Nona and Kak Ida. I'm sure when they opened the cards they were expecting something more than just a card. Ticket to Hawaii? Eheh. Maybe in 10 years' time (crossing my fingers!!!!) To be frank, I didn't know what to get them. For sure it can't be something unoriginal because they give great gifts......(kipas nih!) like what I got just now.......thanks Kak Ida! As soon as I got home I turned on the laptop to try the gadget on. I am ecstatic. It was nice to see the kids again. Ajmal has now got a little chevron on his sleeve; a sign of an upgrade in his life experiences as baby-toddler. Jijin confirmed that she indeed has a lot of friends; too many to recite their names to me, Qin was being her cheeky self but probably forgot who I was because she barely said a sentence to me, Shasha and Aiman are swamped with work to get them ready for their big exams and Along is still in love with Rain. Hohum. Conversation was the usual. There's talk of going for the pilgrimage and the possibility of a couple of us being sponsored for the trip. Yehoo! The stuff-your-face-while-talking-at-the-same-time session took slightly longer than two hours. We convened to the cafe lobby for a photo op and later adjourned to our respective destinations.

And the actual reason I am writing this is because the memory of the food that we had is making me go hungry again. Tonight I'll be going to sleep with a rumbling belly and dreaming of a large salmon lying agains smokey blue-grey walls and a certain antique stained dining table.

The New Proton BLM

Nope, I'm not getting any commission from Proton. Wish I do, though.

In keeping with the theme...

of premature birthday wishes, I hereby announce that I am the first person to wish a certain somebody HAPPY 40TH BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!! I hope the phrase 'Life begins at 40' does not apply to you and wishing you all happiness and longevity as well as a delicious spread of barbecue, ahem!

Just because....

There is no particular reason for this entry. We had an uneventful week and weekend. The holiday was spent lazing around just because I miss lazing around on a holiday with Joe. He's still out there, by the way; doing what he likes best. I have yet to email my non blogging sis his resume just because Joe says he is shy about his credentials. Nothing much to be impressed about, he says. I am livid, of course; at his revelation just because it is particularly a very, very, very stupid excuse indeed. Nantilah ye Kak Nona! He has updated the resume but has yet to give it to me. The bugger is somewhere in the boondocks of Jerantut. Yesterday was at least a little bit productive. The lawn is growing nicely. The flowers are blooming. Only the pseudo Christmas tree is losing its color. Lack of water, probably. I am quite happy of that just because we broke our backs to make it happen. We've looked at a few kitchen cabinet designs. I am at my wits end choosing the right color for the doors just because I want it to match with our kitchen's terracotta orange floor tiles. The walls on the living room have been partially painted with Jotun's Sugar Cane green. It is partially painted just because Joe is trying to veto for the wall to be painted in Jotun's Lime Peel green. The roomie is blabbing about the hubby getting a good offer from a multinational telco company and I am depressed just because I think she is so lucky. And finally, I am not answering the emails with regards to the family get-together in February just because I simply do not know yet what Joe's schedule is like next month.

Stomach Flu Sisters

Qin was hospitalised yesterday for stomach flu. As I heard from my non-blogging kakak, the virus has been around for a few months now. The ulat Qin was later discharged, thank God. True to her ulat self I heard that she didn't have any difficulties even with the flu. This ulat is nowhere near the real ulat that I found lying in my garden last Sunday. Earlier her soul sister, Jijin also got bit by the flu bug. Pity her, it was while we were in PD. But Jijin is also now in her elements. Had a chance to meet her during the weekend and she seemed happy to start her life as a primary schooler. Guess she's met a lot of friends. It was only a year ago that she adamantly refused to go to any school because it had no TV. She must have somehow caught that from her Mushu, heh. And don't even let Mushu say anything about the ulat boy because this is a true ulat prince; always finding an excuse to 'mengodek'. Tapi takper sebab ulat mengodek dengan comelnya!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ABG ZACH!

In keeping with a promise I made, here's wishing you a happy and very together birthday! May Auntida lavish you with love and kisses and everything nice plus a cake or two. May the new year bring new hope and promises and not to mention the great surroundings for a photo op featuring none other than yours truly and joe hihihi....

This is...

what we were up to New Year's eve. Joe wanted to compensate for the time that he left me and so suggested that we decorate our front yard. It was a grave mistake as he soon found out.

On Sunday we trekked to Sg Buloh for the Philippino grass. It cost RM1 per square feet. We also got 3 pots of a plant that we don't know the name of. Today we made the second trip to a nursery nearer to our location in Shah Alam. I can't believe that we have to pay good money just for dirt. A few bags of em. And this time a plant that has little flowers caught Joe's eyes. Don't ask me what its name is. What is it with these Mat Bungas? Or is it possible that Joe caught the Mat Bunga Envy Syndrome from Abg Amir? Hohum....

Now, who knew that it was so hard to plant grass? First, we had to plough the plot to remove the thick patches of Pearl grass that was already there......by hand, no less. Why do they give it such a beautiful name when its looks is nowhere near the real pearl? In fact, I hear this is the grass they feed the cows. Pity we don't have any cows. Next, we had to spread the mixture of black soil and fertiliser all over the yard and finally lay the patches of grass piece by piece to cover the plot. And we did all this under the hot Malaysian sun. By the time we finished this process the sun was already showered and getting into his jammies. Until now I can't forget the occasional look of regret on Joe's face for suggesting this. And I was not shy to rub it in his face. Hihi. When Joe could no longer take the ploughing we switched to planting the individual plants along the edges of the lawn.

Tonight, after watching the fireworks from our balcony, my aching bones screaming and with the TV tuning in to X-Men: The Last Stand, I can't wait to see if it's worth the effort......while Joe is ruining my train of thought with his groans of pain. And we're going back to finish it tomorrow! So yes, that is how we're planning to spend the beginning of the New Year. Happy New Year everyone!

It's been two years...

since I joined this establishment. Despite its quirky and sometimes foolish list of rules and regulations I am still here. It's a given, really, because I am indebted to it for my journey abroad a couple of years ago. Now I am counting the days when I can apply for my badge of honour. One that would allow me more freedom both academically and spiritually. The fact is, it will be my free get-out-jail card. To think that in my younger days I could never have imagined that I would be doing this as a career. A family friend remarked that us siblings are very risk averse. Meaning, we chose the career path that we consider the safest. I didn't really choose this particular career path; it was hammered down on me by my dad with constant phone calls reminding me that he was not happy with my previous job. But, no harm there, I say. Because in hindsight this quirky establishment provides the flexibility that my nature longs for. Read: I can get out of bed later than most people but I can also cave myself in the office till the wee hours of the night when everyone else is tucked safely in their beds. I can recall one or two occasions when Joe had to retire to a sleeping bed on the floor to keep me company. And now that another new year is looming I pray that I have the strength and courage to keep on going and be better at this. For myself, my family and possibly a little beach house in Bora Bora. Heh.

A Day in the Life of an Usherette...

...is not interesting at all. You just have to usher people in. I didn't do much of that anyways. Just put on nice clothes and then pose madly in front of the VIPs. The lunch was horrible as the vegetables were close to being binned and the fruits were limp. But the fish in lemon butter was a compensation. The Koreans were mad cuz nobody came to their 7 booths. And my stomach was in limbo from the nerves. .....then came the time that we were supposed to go on stage. Taking the cue from the team from Athabasca we decided to do a duet. Me and Ayu; Ayu and me. To hell with the grammar! The presentation was a breeze. It WAS in my head at least. And we received a lot of questions. This I take it to my heart to mean that they were interested, interested I tell ya! And I jumped to answer one of the questions. Especially for the guy in the pony tails. Drools and all. So the heartache and the butterflies and the nightmares were once again only a distant memory. Jack just called and told that there might be a chance of me going to Thailand for yet another one of these. Cross my fingers and hope to dazzle the audience with my charm and eloquence, ahem.

Easy Comes Easy Goes

Who knew it could be so easy? I spilled my guts for 2.5 hrs and the money poured in. Thanks a lot to my sister, though. She paved the way for me. Next I'm gonna be making my wish list for a new external hard drive. But the money soon poured out to other more important obligations. Like paying all my debts! Abg Zach is in town and we're treating him and Kak Ida to nasi lemak. I offered Mahbub's nasi bukhara but he refused. Hey, his loss!

We're on the verge of getting the couch that we were looking for. Nothing fancy, just a 3 + 1 + 1 seater and 2 recliners. The recliners are Joe's dream come true since he's a potato couch at birth. Hope his weight will not be increasing any more after we move to the new house. At the rate that we're going with this buying new stuff hype we'll only be done moving house by the middle of next year! It's just so frustrating that at this important time Joe has to go work outside of town. I'm just gonna make him pay by getting us that 52" lcd tv with embedded hard drive.

Ada Lagi ke Blog ni?

it seems like a dead fish in the middle of the road, annoying but nobody pays any attention to it. Not even the neighbourhood cat. I have run out of things to say. Mostly because I find it too revealing to write anything about myself. Who am I kidding? Nobody reads these entries, anyway. So maybe I'd revive this blog to blow off some steam.

Spare me a Jaffa cake...

because I've got the Jaffa cake jones. It's thin layer of chocolate just teases the palate before letting our teeth break into the soft sweet layer of orange jelly and later on crushing the cuchy soft cake base and the taste blends to provide an explosion of the sense. EEEEEeeeeehhhhhhh...can you find them at Tesco?

Post E-village Post

It seems there ARE some visitors here who still wonder why I don't update. Thanks for visiting. Not much to say, really. So I'm posting some random pics instead until I get my writing groove back.
Lovely couple - my uncle with his long lost cousing

Na'a Murad

sat next to our table at Mahbub a couple of nights ago. Frankly speaking I thought you were a show off. Couldn't stop yakking the whole time, could you? And at the top of your lungs at that. I know you are somewhat of a celebrity but barring those who frequent the Actor's Studio I don't think people know you that much. I know some of your work and sometimes I think they're brilliant, but then so are your brother's. When I looked at you it was not because I was looking at exactly you, but I was looking over your shoulder where Nurul the beautiful banker was sitting. She deservers my eye time more than you. And stop announcing to people that Maya Karin is a good girl. If bringing three bottles of champagne to a party means that she's a good girl then all practicing muslims are the devil's cousins. I wonder what your best pal "I am Muslim" Dina would say about that. And don't brag about how much Chivas you can take. It's not very endearing.

We're all addicted to something...

Some go the obviously negative path and become addicted to drugs and alcohol. Others, like Oprah, are addicted to food. So am I. But that's a whole other entry. I've discovered that I'm also addicted to something else. Instant gratification. It's the reason why whenever I'm feeling down (ONLY when I'm feeling down) I like to clean, or iron my clothes, or wash dishes. I get to see instant results. It's a relief to see that shrivelled up, wrinkly shirt suddenly become as smooth as a baby's bottom by just squirting the kitchen maid and running the hot iron on the shirt's surface. I'm not patient like some people. I get tetchy waiting for money in the bank to grow. I become kranky thinking of having to plan and plan and plan for a project. I just want to get it going so that I could see the results. It brings me grief sometimes because my addiction distracts me from seeing the big picture; the grand scheme of things so to speak. I'm supposed to be able to think strategically and plan for my future in the long run. Not the short distance ahead. But I'm glad that I haven't become so shortsighted to join Windlifund. Like some people. Muehehehehe. May you (yes, you know who you are!) wait for it till my cat turn into a sheep.
